SUMMARY:IHCA Lunch & Learn Series - Medicaid: The Truth About Resources\, Spenddowns and Penalties
DESCRIPTION:This session will discuss allowable vs. non-allowable transfers\, how non-allowable transfers affect a resident's eligibility\, and what causes a penalty with loss of funds to a facility. Presenter Sara Saric will provide participants with a review of resources per PM/WAG 07-02\, with an emphasis on allowable transfers in 07-02-20b and Prevention of Spousal Impoverishment rules.Presenter: Sara Saric | Saric Consulting\, Inc. Sara Saric has worked with IL Medicaid recipients since 2001. While working for the Department of Human Services' St Clair County office\, she managed a full medical and SNAP caseload for 6 years\, then specialized as a long term care caseworker from 2007 until she resigned in 2015. She worked closely with local facilities\, residents\, and attorneys in the Metro-East area to ensure proper handling of cases as she processed intake\, admissions\, income changes\, and renewals before all the local office cases were transferred to the Decatur long term care hub in early 2015. Sara has extensive training on the SMART Act of 2012\, which changed many components of the LTC and SLF cases. She processed SNAP and handled community medical when needed\, giving her a diverse understanding of the different programs she uses today to benefit not only the residents but also families who have little to no help during this difficult process. Saric Consulting is contracted with nursing homes across IL to process applications for their residents\, taking the burden off the nursing home staff and reducing financial loss so they can focus on providing care to their residents. \nContinuing Education: This activity has been approved for 1 continuing education credit for licensed nursing home administrators\, nurses\, and social workers by the Illinois Health Care Association\, an approved sponsor of continuing education by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation.
